When I first started surfing the net, I didn't realize how many times my IP address was being pinged. When I found out, I got really PO'd. Then I found out about ZoneAlarm. I think it is absolutely worth the cost (free for non-business). It protects my computer from other users 'hacking and cracking' into my machine. It's easy to install and will let you know when any other computer tries to ping you (you can tell it not to let you know anymore) or when ANY program on your computer attempts to send stuff out (beware adware and spyware!). I swear by this and highly recommend it. I tried using McAffe Internet Security Center. HATED it! It stopped email I wanted to send, kept hanging up my router and denied me access to the internet. Whatever you do, don't use McAffee! You can get ZoneAlarm at http://www.zonelabs.com. |

Want a reliable *FREE* anti-virus? I've been using AVG for over a year now and really believe it's doing the job. It is developed in the Czech Republic and is available (in English) at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/). It scans your system to remove any ad bugs that you may have picked up during your surfing times. Spybot - Search and Destroy (available at http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html). This also scans your system to find and remove Spyware. Spyware Blaster (available at http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/). This provides a layer of protection by pre-identifying sites known to install ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers and tracking cookies. It works for Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox browsers. |
